The Damascus Dragons

The First Ever Hand Engraved Damascus 1911s by Cabot Guns

In the Year of the Dragon 2024, Cabot Guns embarked on the pursuit of a never-before seen technique that elegantly melds two traditionally mutually exclusive finishing techniques. Cabot Guns has developed and mastered the techniques of super-etching artisan Damascus steels to elicit the locked-in artistry to a visible and deep textural feel. A process so aggressively acidic that any surfaces delicately engraved by a Master Engraver would be immediately eradicated and thus the thought of combining artisan hand engraving and Damascus steels was one of pure mythology. And thus, it was an apropos that this first-ever combination of Damascus steel and artistic hand engraving is to tribute the dragons that have patrolled the winds and waters through the ages of mythology.

The Wind Damascus Dragon soars through the skies and clouds with the elegance of flexible fluid movements and the wisdom of the ages. Known for its swiftness and agility, is often depicted as a long, slender creature with scales that shimmer like moonlight. It is believed to have the power to control the winds, summoning gusts that can either bring life-giving rain or destructive storms. It is often depicted as a benevolent deity, bringing blessings of good fortune and prosperity to those who honor it.

The Water Damascus Dragon sails through the deepest waters of lakes and ocean with the strength of dynamic motion and a balance of thought and emotion.  Closely linked to the element of water tt is often portrayed as a massive, powerful creature with scales that gleam like scales of fish. The Water Dragon is believed to have dominion over rivers, lakes, and oceans, capable of controlling the flow of water and summoning rain or drought. It is often seen as a protective deity, guarding against floods and other natural disasters.

While the Wind Dragon and the Water Dragon are distinct entities, they are also interconnected and interdependent. In many myths and legends, these two dragons are portrayed as siblings or partners, working together to maintain the balance of nature. The Wind Dragon’s control over the winds helps to regulate the water cycle, while the Water Dragon’s influence over water nourishes the land and sustains life. Their presence in Asian mythology reflects the deep-rooted reverence for nature and the belief in the interconnectedness of all things.

The slides of the Damascus Dragons are artisan Damascus steel by Master blacksmith Robert “Deker” Dekelbaum. Cabot Guns collaborated with Master engraver Richard Quecke to selectively define his metallic canvas for the engraved artistry and to elegantly match the form, fit and finish of the Damascus steel to create a field for the engraving to melt into seamlessly.

The hand engraving is accented with 24kt gold inlay and red rubies set in the pins, magazine catch and guide rod.  Chambered in a fully capable 45ACP.

The Damascus Dragons are cased together in a vintage Chinese carved wood chest with custom interior fitted by Cabot Guns and Master casemaker SA Parker.

As a complimentary set, the Damascus Dragon pistols highlight the development by Cabot Guns of the techniques to seamlessly combine delicate hand engraving by a Master engraver with deeply and aggressively etched Damascus steel for the first time ever in history. A truly and uniquely first-ever piece of history.
