On June 16, 1776, Thomas Jefferson was deep in the drafting of this document. A document that made traitors of every man who signed it. In honor of this legacy, Cabot Guns proudly unveils the America 250 Limited Edition 1911, a masterpiece where history breathes through modern craftsmanship. Released just before Independence Day 2026 in a strictly limited run of 50 pistols, this firearm transforms relics of colonial conflict into symbols of sovereignty, embodying the transformation of oppression into opportunity that has marked America’s journey for two and a half centuries.

At the heart of the America 250 lies a remarkable fusion of past and present: a 4-pound cannon ball, salvaged from the depths of Lake Champlain in the 1950s, reborn as Damascus steel through the collaboration of Ray Rybar and Robert Eggerling, two masters of steel.

This artifact, likely fired during the Revolutionary War’s fierce naval engagements, carries the weight of history. In its original form, the cannonball would have been a destructive force, linked by iron bar or chain to another to create devastation, annihilating masts, rigging and sails upon impact.

Lake Champlain, a vital strategic corridor between British-controlled Canada and the rebellious American colonies, was the stage for pivotal battles that tested the young nation’s resolve. In 1776, at Valcour Island, Benedict Arnold’s ragtag fleet heroically delayed a superior British force, granting precious time for the Continental Army to regroup and ultimately secure independence. British artillery, including 4-pounders like this one, represented the imperial might aimed at crushing the rebellion—from the sieges at Fort Ticonderoga to the broader campaigns that sought to divide and conquer the colonies. Recovered nearly two centuries later, this cannon ball serves as a tangible echo of those struggles, reminding us of the sacrifices made by patriots who turned the tide against overwhelming odds.

The slide, forged from 100% American-made billet stainless steel, is ultra-precisely modeled and machine engraved with an intricate eagle motif. Drawing from the young republic’s admiration for the Roman Republic, the bald eagle—proposed by Pennsylvania scholar William Barton and officially adopted on the Great Seal on June 20, 1782—symbolizes strength, freedom, and independence. Despite Benjamin Franklin’s whimsical preference for the turkey, the eagle prevailed, clutching an olive branch and 13 arrows to represent peace and the original colonies’ unity in defense. This seal is embossed atop the slide, which is bead-blasted to a bright, nearly white sheen, evoking purity and resolve.

Through meticulous American craftsmanship, the iron cannonball was forged into something extraordinary. Renowned blacksmith Ray Rybar undertook the intricate process of converting the cannon ball’s raw material into carbon steel, heating it to extreme temperatures and purifying it with precision. Master Damascus artisan Robert Eggerling then hand-forged it into damascus steel billets, layering it with nickel and other materials through repeated folding and hammering to create the steel’s signature wavy patterns emblematic of strength, beauty, and endurance.

 These billets were precision-machined into custom triggers for our 50 limited-edition Cabot 1911s. Deep-etched for detail and Nitre Blued to enhance brilliance while protecting against oxidation, each trigger positions the cannon ball steel at the forefront. When your finger rests upon it, you are literally touching history—a direct connection to the Revolutionary era, repurposed from an instrument of British domination into a beacon of American freedom. Each round of the true American caliber .45ACP fired from these pistols is released by this historic material, connecting us to the 250 years of history that brings us to today.

Inspired by our forefathers, who on July 9, 1776 tore down a 4,000 pound lead statue of King George III in Bowling Green, New York. The statue was torn down by patriots, and quickly melted down and cast into bullets that were used in the war. In the same spirit, we have crafted copper bead front sights for each of these pistols from British Colonial Half Pennies, coins in circulation by decree of King George III at the time of our revolution.

Assembled with white American holly grips engraved with excerpts from the Declaration of Independence, high-polished blue PVD small parts, and the Nitre Blue Damascus trigger, the pistol elegantly mirrors the red, white, and blue of the American flag. Every element reflects the nation’s patriotism and principles, blending historical reverence with contemporary artistry.
