The human mind has no immunity to the overwhelming fascination induced by the mystical night skies. From the first gaze of a small child upon the wonderment of a kaleidoscope of constellations and nebulae to the relentlessly consuming pursuit of deep space exploration of stars, planets, and meteors by generations of the most introspective, intelligent minds, nothing blurs our nondescript natural world into a magical, supernatural realm like the mystical veil of the starry night skies seemingly draped over us by a higher power in protection of a prized possession.
In the rarest of moments, on a backdrop of starry constellations and fleeting colorful auroras, a meteor tears through the mystical veil of night and the ancient iron traveller falls to Earth. A fragment forged in the heart of a dying star, tempered by the cosmic heat of a billion years of flight, and carrying an unfathomable history that ignites our imagination to ponder the depths of its age, composition, and what this traveler has seen on its journey.
It is not a secret that Cabot Guns has a historical affinity for meteorite, the metal of legends and lore that has captivated generations. It has been 10 years since the launch of the Big Bang Pistols, the most significant, iconic and coveted pistol set ever created completely of meteorite by Cabot Guns. Mystic is our current OAK (One-of-a-Kind) offering that is a product of the melding of an affinity for meteorite and a tribute to the wonderment of our mystic natural universe.
The Damascus slide of Mystic was born in the forge of Master Blacksmith Robert Eggerling with a matrix of steel pierced with bold veins of nickel to represent the brilliant plume of flames as our meteorite flashes though the friction of earth’s atmosphere. Cabot Gun transformed Eggerlings Mystic Damascus steel billet into a highly toleranced and finely functioning pistol through precision machining and master gunsmithing. Finishing of the slide is a meticulously refined bright hand polish and a natural heat coloring technique that brings out the natural colors of the steels with shades of sapphire, cobalt and indigos that replicate the dark mystic night skies.
The inspiration behind the Damascus slide was the iron meteors that have jetted through the heavens for billions of years to end their journey streaking across our midnight sky and crashing to earth. Cabot Guns has secured some of these meteorite relics to ultimately land on distinguished points of the Mystic pistol. The front and rear sights, TriStar trigger and grips are all expertly crafted from solid meteorite and finished naturally to elicit the inherent Widmanstatten pattern of the meteorite grain structure. This unmistakable cross-hatched crystalline structure is a natural result of hurling iron through the vacuum of space for several billion years resulting in an unbelievably long grain structure that is invisible without the fastidious application of acids to etch the surface and highlight the natural patterns and colors of the meteorite.
An exceptionally noteworthy element of the meteorite on Mystic is the mineral inclusions, most notably troilite nodules, exhibited on the left grip panel and rear sight. These ancient artifacts formed more than four billion years ago within the molten metallic core of an early asteroid, where iron sulfide separated from iron-nickel metal and solidified into rounded pockets during extremely slow cooling in space. Not defects, but natural features that speak to the meteorite’s cosmic formation, three distinct inclusions are clearly highlighted on the left grip panel and two more are visible on the rear sight. The ponderings of their origin are limitless — what conditions shaped them, and what history do they silently record? They remain preserved within the meteorite as enduring evidence of a journey that poses more questions than answers.
Housed in a museum-grade bespoke case handcrafted by retired nuclear engineer and Master Furniture Guild member Steven A. Parker, the presentation reflects a shared commitment to permanence and craft. Formed from meticulously selected figured wood, the exterior features bookmatched curly maple, hand-dyed in a rich blue to complement the pistol, while a claro walnut interior beneath the removable tray provides elegant contrast. The wood reveals a natural constellation of figure, mirrored with precision to create balance and harmony. Executed in Cabot’s signature Freedom Fit design, the interior presents the pistol with minimal restraint for maximum visibility. An ebony trigger hold adds quiet contrast, and a hand-rubbed oil finish deepens the grain, inviting a tactile connection. Each bespoke Cabot Parker case is serialized—this example being number 67 of all museum-grade cases produced.
With a pedigree of performance, Mystic is a fully capable Cabot Guns 1911 OAK grade pistol. Another will never be made. Chambered in 45 ACP, this government length 1911 pistol is equally befit in a range bag or the Natural History Museum.
Mystic is an OAK offering dedicated to being 100% natural in its creation, no man-made coatings or materials, only natural irons, steels, meteorite from the heavens, and investment-grade craftsmanship to elicit the optimum natural beauty of each and every element. These “Materials of Legend” deliver Mystic as a powerful pistol with a natural affinity to be the pinnacle of any collection and a magical story to be the centerpiece of any conversation.
