This is the spirit captured in River of Gold — a singular Cabot 1911, uncomprmosing machined entirely from 100% stainless steel by Cabot Machinists, then fit and finished by hand under Cabot Master Gunsmithing. Hand-engraved by FEGA Emerging Artist of the Year Richard Quecke, the pistol unites Japanese artistic language with uncompromising Western resolve.
Quecke did not merely decorate the steel. He sculpted it. Water and rock were cut away, filed, stoned, and polished by hand with handmade micro files and ceramic stones until the surface became a stepped topography — subtle layers of current and stone that the fingers register as much as the eye. Only after the water was finished did the koi arrive. Using traditional inlay technique, Quecke relieved the entire field, undercut the walls, and raised a bur field so the precious metal would lock mechanically into the steel. The inlays themselves are large, wrapping over the corners of the slide, then flushed flush so they follow the sculpted water rather than sit upon it. The work is time-consuming and exacting by design: every decision subordinated to how the pistol would feel in the hand.
Multi-gold koi rise across slide and frame in 14-, 18-, and 24-karat yellow gold, 18-karat rose gold, and .995 fine silver. Black elements are zinc-and-nickel plating. Their bodies flow with the fluid grace of traditional Japanese metalwork, every scale and ripple rendered by Quecke’s hand. A self-taught engraver whose path began in professional tattooing and has since produced Cabot’s celebrated Damascus Dragons, Apex Jurassic, and Fossil pistols, Quecke brings distinctive contemporary depth and movement to classical Eastern motifs.
Chambered in .45 ACP, the pistol is completed with a suite of exclusive details that reward close study. A custom trigger features a yin-yang pair of carp, created in-house. A sparkling, globe-like 14-karat gold front sight crowns the slide. An Easter-egg gold-plated rear sight set screw — executed entirely in-house — quietly affirms the obsessive standard that defines every Cabot. The custom serial number RQ-1 marks both provenance and the collaboration with Quecke.
