Metal Artist and Master Blacksmith Jason Morrissey did not simply capture them. Through sustained heat, immense pressure, and relentless forging, he elongated the ball bearings and folded them again and again until their individual motion became a singular piece of Damascus steel—one-of-a-kind material that still carries the memory of the swarm. The work required time, force, and a deep understanding of how the steel would respond under the press. Day after day the material was worked, tested, and refined until the elongated forms settled into a surface that feels alive even at rest. What emerged was not pattern for its own sake, but motion made permanent.
Our artisans here at Cabot Guns transformed it with bespoke craftsmanship of the highest order. Using state-of-the-art precision and the quiet skill of the Cabot Gunsmith, the elongated Ball Bearing Damascus became the slide, grips, and trigger. Every contour was considered. Every surface was given purpose. Never-before-used techniques brought the material fully to life: traditional etching opened the pattern with care and control, while fourteen-karat gold plating revealed gold and purple undertones that shift and deepen with the light. The colors do not sit on the surface; they seem to rise from within it. Front and rear sights are hand-finished in gold, with selective polishing and bluing along the rear sight that changes character as the pistol turns in the hand—from top view to side view, the surface continually revealing new depth and quiet complexity. The frame carries a hand-patina finish that draws complementary color and quiet character, supporting the Damascus without competing with it, allowing the elongated pattern to remain the dominant voice.
