A One of a Kind Cabot 1911

Built to Complement APEX FOSSIL, another One-of-a-Kind Cabot 1911

The human mind has no immunity to the overwhelming fascination induced by the mystical night skies. From the first gaze of a small child upon the wonderment of aAs the sun slips below the horizon of the ancient Gobi Desert, the towering sand dunes transform into waves of deep orange streaked with long, jagged shadows. With a clack of its venerable jaw and a slash of its terrible claw the Raptor assumes its role as the cretaceous assassin. It stalks with nimble agility and silent precision—a carnivorous machine driven by instinct. Suddenly, a gleaming flash distracts its eye. The blackening sky splits as a stream of fire explodes across the heavens. Unaware of the peril falling from the stars, the apex predator returns to the hunt. It is a single instant of cosmic rarity: a meteorite, a billion years in the making, has just altered the course of the world. It doomed thousands of species to become skeletons strewn in swamps, only to be resurrected eons later by man as archaeological treasures. kaleidoscope of constellations and nebulae to the relentlessly consuming pursuit of deep space exploration of stars, planets, and meteors by generations of the most introspective, intelligent minds, nothing blurs our nondescript natural world into a magical, supernatural realm like the mystical veil of the starry night skies seemingly draped over us by a higher power in protection of a prized possession.

In the rarest of moments, on a backdrop of starry constellations and fleeting colorful auroras, a meteor tears through the mystical veil of night and the ancient iron traveller falls to Earth. A fragment forged in the heart of a dying star, tempered by the cosmic heat of a billion years of flight, and carrying an unfathomable history that ignites our imagination to ponder the depths of its age, composition, and what this traveler has seen on its journey.

This incomprehensible collision of million-year-old predators and billion-year-old meteors is the inspiration of the artistry for the Cabot Guns Apex Jurassic 1911.

A true “art pistol,” the Cabot Guns Apex Jurassic 1911 was brought to life by award-winning Master Metal Engraver Richard Quecke. The ‘canvas’ is a precision-engineered Cabot Guns 1911 pistol masterfully crafted of Damascus, steel, and extraterrestrial meteorite. Master Damascus Blacksmith Jason Morrissey created a unique ‘fossil’ Damascus specifically for this project; the technique creates an incredibly organic texture transforming the slide into a slice of a sedimentary fossil field.

The Cabot Guns master gunsmiths utilized an exclusive selective-etch process to provide a perfect stage for Quecke to meld the most elite forms of metal art by hand engraved on artisan Damascus steel.

Quecke’s hand carving technique recreates an archaeological dig site, strewing Raptor bones across the slide in deep-cut, realistic relief. The scene is punctuated by a 24kt gold inlay of the iconic sickle-shaped Raptor claw. Quecke contrasts the “earthy” organics of the skeleton remains with a refined Bulino engraved vignette of a living Raptor, its piercing eyes locked on target. This imagery is ironically captured on grips crafted from actual meteorite—the very material that symbolized the species’ ultimate demise. The contrast from refined to organic engraving techniques further emphasizes the contrast from life to death. The meteorite also shows up as the trigger on this artful masterpiece, a 4-billion-year-old piece of iron that bears witness to cosmic eras long before the dinosaurs roamed the earth to the present day and to the tip of your shooting finger.

The custom carbon steel frame of the Apex Jurassic 1911 is finished in Cabot Guns’ Fire and Ice rustic patina to compliment the raw earthiness of the dig site. Small parts and controls are finished in a brushed bronze PVD—bright accents representing the brass tools of the archaeologists whose indomitable drive brings these legendary creatures back to “life.”

The Cabot Guns Apex Jurassic is a fully capable high precision 1911 pistol of government length. All bones tell a story, and the bones of the Jurassic 1911 speak of a pistol that was just pulled from an archaeological dig site — raw, authentic, and a captivating piece of fine art.
