Picture the metal gods raining down ball bearings from a celestial forge, each sphere melding into the iconic form of a 1911. This is Raindrop—a limited-edition pair, serialized RAINDROP-1 and RAINDROP-2. Only two exist, crafted for those who demand the extraordinary. Cabot Guns presents a creation born of raw ingenuity and unrelenting artistry.
For those familiar with Cabot’s use of Damascus steel 1911 mastery, Raindrop breaks from the traditional twist and mosaic patterns. This pistol owes its soul to a decade-long collaboration with Jason Morrissey—a metal wizard and multi-media artist who bends glass and steel into breathtaking forms. Our journey began with the Diablo Damascus, a bold pattern-welded design, followed by striking works like the Thunderstruck. Each project with
Jason is a plunge into the unknown. Raindrop is no exception.
Two years ago, Jason pitched a daring idea: forge Damascus steel from ball bearings. These high-carbon orbs, built for hardness and resilience in mechanical extremes, transform through a meticulous process—cleaned, welded into a canister, heated to a molten glow, then hammered and folded into a solid billet. The outcome is a steel alive with intricate, circular patterns, reminiscent of raindrops rippling across water. It’s a fusion of strength and beauty, perfectly suited for a 1911.
Raindrop debuts as the first 1911 crafted in this “Raindrop Damascus” style. Our master gunsmiths unlock its magic with a deep etch that carves ripple-like impressions, revealing a vivid blue finish laced with traces of purple and pink. The classic full-size 1911 configuration keeps the focus on the steel, with subtle enhancements that elevate every detail. A ball-cut slide echoes the circular motif, while a brightly polished Timascus trigger adds a luxurious touch. The stainless-steel frame and barrel, hand-polished and coated in Black Ice Diamond-Like-Carbon, deliver durability with a sleek edge.
Small parts amplify the design. Selective polishing creates depth, while a royal Cabot Blue vapor deposition finish adorns the slide stop, thumb safety, barrel bushing, hammer, pins, and grip screws—each a striking complement to the Damascus tones. An 18kt gold bead front sight gathers light with precision, sharpening your focus. The cocking serrations, milled with a ball-end tool, flow in smooth curves, harmonizing with the pistol’s fluid aesthetic.
Bruce Lee’s wisdom resonates here: “Be formless, shapeless, like water… Water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.” In Raindrop, Jason’s ball-bearing Damascus adapts to the 1911’s contours—effortless yet commanding.
A bespoke case by Steven Parker, a former nuclear engineer turned master furniture maker, cradles Raindrop. Crafted with bookmatched veneers, seamless hinges, and Cabot’s Freedom Fit, it offers a resting place as refined as the pistol itself, designed for maximum admiration.
Raindrop emerges from a collaboration of visionaries—ball-bearing steel, artistic daring, and Cabot’s precision craftsmanship. Limited to RAINDROP-1 and RAINDROP-2, these pistols are forged for those who seek the pinnacle of form and function. Secure yours, and wield a piece of the heavens.
